As the economic climate continues to change, more and more Wisconsin residents and businesses are looking for ways to save money and energy.

Focus on Energy, Wisconsin's energy efficiency and renewable energy initiative, offers information, services and financial incentives to help energy consumers live and work more efficiently, and to tap into clean, renewable energy sources such as the sun and wind. Every year since 2001, residents, farms and businesses have saved over $239 million dollars in energy costs with the help of Focus on Energy, and we're just getting started.

As Focus continues to promote the economic and environmental benefits of energy efficiency, we'll strive to keep you up to date on the latest news and success stories from across our great state. In the meantime, we hope you'll enjoy this electronic news brief designed especially for you.

Focus helps Wisconsin save $239 million in annual energy costs

Focus on Energy has helped Wisconsin residents and businesses save more than $239 million in annual energy costs by making smart energy choices. These savings translate into real economic and environmental benefits for the state. The total savings are equivalent to:

  • The amount of electricity consumed each year by about 173,694 average homes in Wisconsin.
  • Meeting the electricity needs of a town the size of Dodgeville, Wis., for nearly 37 years.
  • The amount of energy produced by burning 8,650 rail-car loads of coal.
  • The same energy value as 4.9 million barrels of oil.

Focus achieves record number of renewable energy installations in 2008

This past year, Focus on Energy helped Wisconsin businesses and homeowners complete 338 renewable energy projects – a record for the number of projects completed in one year since Focus on Energy's inception. By providing expert information, services and $3.5 million in financial incentives, Focus has enabled a record number of Wisconsin energy consumers to harness energy from the sun, wind and biomass materials. These systems will generate enough energy to heat and power 1,000 homes.
