Change your carbon footprint

Carbon footprint is the measure of the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2 aka greenhouse gases) you generate during daily activities. Every time you turn on a light or watch TV, you use electricity, which in Wisconsin, is produced primarily by coal-burning power plants. To heat your home, you may also be burning natural gas or propane. And when you start your car or take a plane flight, you burn gasoline. Every time one of your daily activities relies on the burning of a fossil fuel, your carbon footprint gets a little bigger.

Switching to more energy efficient light bulbs is a great first step toward reducing your carbon footprint. But there are lots of simple changes you can make to reduce your energy use and the pollution you create. With every small change you make, your footprint gets a little smaller, too.

Change the Climate

When we burn fossil fuels to create electricity, heat our homes and power our cars, that process emits carbon dioxide (CO2). CO2 is the greenhouse gas that traps heat within our atmosphere—contributing to global warming and climate change.
