Focus offers new lighting incentives, updates forms

As technology improves, Focus on Energy strives to keep you up to date on the latest energy efficient solutions, as well as incentives to increase their adoption. Effective March 1, Focus has made the following updates to its lighting incentives and forms.
New incentives for prescriptive lighting
Focus now offers incentives for the following technologies:
- LED downlights—$30 per unit when replacing 60W to 100W incandescent units with a LED recessed downlight of ≤18W.
- Fluorescent lighting—$10 per fixture when replacing a 2X4 three-lamp or four-lamp F40 T12 or F32 T8 with a two-lamp F28 T5 2X4 recessed/indirect fixture.
- High/low HID control adder—$20 per controlled fixture when you add an occupancy-based high/low control to an eligible pulse start HID on the same application form.
The LED downlight incentive is offered for complete replacement of the luminaire unit, including trim, reflector, lens, heat sink, driver and light source. Documentation is required to show that the product meets ENERGY STAR® eligibility criteria for SSL recessed downlights and has a minimum luminaire efficiency of 35 lumens per watt.
Focus now offers an incentive of $10 per fixture when replacing a 2X4 three-lamp or four-lamp F40 T12 or F32 T8 with a two-lamp F28 T5 2X4 recessed/indirect fixture. The more efficient optical properties of this type of recessed, indirect fixture deliver light at a higher angle without glare. The higher efficiency of the T5 fixture enables these units to easily replace a typical parabolic-type fixture with more lamps.
For the first time, Focus is offering a prescriptive incentive for adding an occupancy-based high/low control to a qualified high-bay pulse-start metal halide installation. High/low controls are designed to lower light levels and energy use when a space is unoccupied. Because the lights do not power down completely, they do not need to re-strike and immediately return to full light output when motion is sensed in the area. Typically, these systems are designed to lower light output to 50 percent with an approximate wattage reduction of 30 percent, or to 30 percent output with an approximate wattage reduction of 50 percent.
Updated application forms can now be completed electronically
Besides adding new measures, Focus has made several changes and improvements to the Lighting Incentive Application forms.
The first thing you’ll notice is that the form has expanded from four pages to six. The extra pages accommodate the increased number of eligible utilities listed on the last page, as well as form fields that enable market providers to fill out applications electronically. The six-page format also allows Focus to group measures and technologies by application as follows:
- Page 2: incandescent replacement technologies
- Page 3: linear fluorescent (non high-bay) and occupancy sensors
- Page 4: high-bay fixtures
Finally, the updated form contains revised CFL wattage ranges that more accurately reflect available products. CFLs up to 32 watts are eligible for Cash-Back Rewards of $2 each; CFLs of 33–115 watts, $5 each.
