In 2007 Focus on Energy partnered with AWS Truewind to produce maps showing predicted long-term mean annual wind
speed at 30, 40, 60, 70, and 100 meters above ground at a 200 meter resolution. Additionally, AWS Truewind produced
an annual power map at 40 meters above ground with a 200 meter resolution. These maps were produced by incorporating
meteorological, topographic, and land cover data into a powerful computer simulation tool. The wind speeds predicted
on these wind maps were compared against data from 12 wind monitoring towers throughout Wisconsin to verify their
accuracy. On average, the predicted wind speeds at the tower locations were 1.2% lower than the observed wind speeds.
It should be stressed however that the mean wind speed at a particular location may depart substantially from that
predicted by the maps. These wind maps are designed to serve as a rough guide in determining the wind potential at
your site. To most accurately determine the renewable energy potential of your property Focus on Energy recommends
completing a site assessment. You can learn more about the site assessment program

Wisconsin Wind Resource Assessment Program (WRAP) Report
A consortium of utilities in the State of Wisconsin is conducting a statewide wind resource assessment study in
conjunction with the Wisconsin Energy Bureau (WEB), the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin, and the National
Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). The purpose of the Wisconsin Wind Resource Assessment Program (WRAP) is to
identify potential areas for wind energy project development and to obtain wind data from a geographically diverse
sample of the state of Wisconsin. The consortium retained the services of Global Energy Concepts, LLC (GEC),
an engineering consulting firm, to conduct this study. The final report was completed in 2002.
