Focus on Energy's Affordable Housing Initiative

Focus on Energy, Wisconsin's energy efficiency and renewable energy program, wants to collaborate with affordable housing builders, remodelers and operators1 (whether building new or remodeling) to create more affordable housing stock by reducing monthly energy costs.

Energy efficient housing brings immediate benefits to families. By planning for energy efficiency early in the design process, additional costs can be minimized or avoided. To find out how one Milwaukee home was transformed, please read our case study.

Eligibility
To qualify for Focus on Energy's Affordable Housing Program, your organization must build, remodel or operate housing where the end use recipients (whether owners, renters, or transitional occupants) will be at or below 80% of county median income OR the home is a part of the Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP).

Eligible businesses are 501c(3) nonprofit or governmental organizations. Call to confirm your eligibility. 1-800-762-7077

Earn financial incentives for projects
The Affordable Housing program works the same way as the Home performance with Energy Star and the New Homes Program. It is delivered though accredited consultants. The differences are increased incentives based on energy savings and, where there are extensive remodels, a whole house performance standard which, if met, receives double the normal standard.

1Operators include a variety of organizations, such as shelters, safe houses and transitional living facilities.
