Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® Program

Buying your home was one of the largest investments you have made. Improving the “envelope” or “shell” of your home by adding air sealing and insulation is often the most cost-effective way to make your home more efficient and comfortable.

Through the Home Performance with ENERGY STAR Program, homeowners receive a comprehensive, whole house energy assessment and recommendations on energy-saving improvements that are smart for you and your family.

Homeowners that participate in the program receive:

• FREE installation and FREE energy-saving products such as compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs), high efficiency showerheads, and water-saving kitchen and bathroom faucet aerators.
• An energy assessment performed by a Home Performance Trade Ally.
• Rewards of 33.3% of the energy-saving improvement cost up to $1,500.
• Savings bonus up to $700 based on the percentage of energy saved through the installed eligible measures.
• Customizable reports detailing home energy assessment and retrofit recommendations.
• No hassle reimbursements for customer incentives.

How can I apply?

While it’s easy to make small investments in your home to save energy, it’s not always easy to know where the most effective place to start is. The Home Performance with ENERGY STAR program is designed to help you decide what improvements will save the most money and add the most comfort.

STEP 1: Schedule a Home Performance with ENERGY STAR energy assessment with a Home Performance Trade Ally. When choosing a Home Performance Trade Ally to work with, they will explain their full set of services, from the initial assessment of your home to their ability to complete the recommendations they will make. The Home Performance Trade Ally you choose to work with will use a “whole house approach” to make sure the elements of your home are working in harmony.

Industry standard tools and tests, like a blower door test, an infrared scan, and a safety test of your mechanical systems help the Trade Ally locate specific areas that need attention. Your home will be modeled using state-of-the-art energy modeling software, and recommendations for energy-saving solutions will be provided to you in a report. The report includes information on energy savings and potential payback to let you know exactly what you can start doing to save energy and money in your home.

STEP 2: Complete one or more of the recommended improvements. After reviewing the report recommendations and selecting those improvements that you want to undertake, you will work with your Home Performance Trade Ally to retrofit your home.

STEP 3: Receive rewards for the qualified improvements. You are eligible for an instant reward of 33 percent off the total cost of the program eligible work, up to $1,500. Your Home Performance Trade Ally will complete all required paperwork.

STEP 4: Check to see if you are eligible for a savings bonus. Depending on how much modeled energy savings you achieve from the work done at your home, you may be eligible for a $200 or $700 savings bonus on top of your instant reward! If you are eligible, Focus on Energy will mail your savings bonus to your home after the all of the work is done.

STEP 5: Enjoy the benefits of energy efficiency. Now that you’ve gone through the Home Performance with ENERGY STAR process, you can enjoy a comfortable and efficient home, while saving on your utility bills!

 

Eligibility and Requirements

The Home Performance with ENERGY STAR Program is available to single-family or multifamily residences of 3 units or less.

Rewards are only available to customers of participating Wisconsin electric and natural gas utilities. At least 50% of the home must be heated through natural gas or electricity.
