Take your bottom line to a whole new level with whole-building lighting

Announcing the Whole-Building Lighting Program for Schools and Government Facilities

Focus on Energy is pleased to offer schools and government facilities a program designed to bring your operations staff together with lighting design professionals to collaborate and think "outside the box" to reduce energy use. Together you can spend the additional time needed to evaluate alternatives to standard lighting design and use advanced technologies to increase energy efficiency.

Is a whole-building lighting upgrade right for you?
As lighting standards, technology, and design practices change, many buildings are left with outdated and over-lit areas that waste energy and money. Ask yourself:

  • Is the space being used for its original purpose?
Often, rooms are designed for general activities rather than specific ones, and equipped with more lighting than they actually need. A common example is today's office settings following the widespread conversion from desktop paper-based activities to computer-based workstations.

  • Do you have more fixtures than you need?
Many facilities have both over-lit and under-lit areas. A comprehensive lighting redesign can provide proper redistribution based on analyses of work applications and light functionality.

  • Was lighting a top priority for the original builders, or was it installed based on "lowest cost possible"?
A review of your building's current lighting can reveal significant opportunities to reduce energy consumption and optimize lighting levels.

Explore, challenge and maximize your building's lighting potential
This program’s incentives are enhanced to encourage aggressive energy savings and promote a comprehensive whole-building approach over a less-costly partial upgrade. The more aggressive the design approach toward reducing energy use, the more rewarding the grant will become. In addition, the financial incentive will allow both parties to receive funding, with 90 percent for the customer and 10 percent for the lighting designer.

Application Process
Participation is easy—just follow the simple steps below.
  1. Fill out the application.
  2. Once your application is received, Focus will send you or your lighting designer a spreadsheet to help you benchmark the proposed upgrade area.
  3. Once your participation is approved, Focus on Energy staff will guide you through the rest of the process.
