Every home in the Wisconsin ENERGY STAR® Homes Program undergoes a series of performance tests and must meet specific program standards before being certified. This certification is your assurance that your new home is comfortable, safe, durable and energy efficient.

It also helps ensure that you'll save money--year after year--on energy costs, and may increase your home's value at the time of resale.

Buyers of Wisconsin ENERGY STAR Homes can expect all of the following in their new homes:
  • Superior moisture control and indoor air quality
  • Minimized drafts
  • Effective insulation, properly installed
  • Sealed combustion equipment and carbon monoxide detectors to ensure safety
  • High-performance windows and doors
The Review and Certification Process
With Wisconsin ENERGY STAR Homes, your home is reviewed by a third-party consultant three times during the construction process:
  1. The first evaluation takes place after site framing--looking for unintentional holes that might lead to air leakage.
  2. After insulation is installed, the consultant will review the home for full insulation coverage and proper installation.
  3. When your home is completed, we certify that construction quality meets Program standards. The consultant partner partners will measure the home's air tightness and check its ventilation capacity, measure exhaust flows and test the efficiency of your forced-air duct system.
Upon certification, you'll receive a folder including a Homeowner's Manual, a Certification Report and a Wisconsin ENERGY STAR Homes Certification Plaque. This is everything you'll need to run your new home efficiently, and maintain its performance and value.
