What Does the ENERGY STAR^® Mean?
Products that have earned the ENERGY STAR have the highest rating a product can earn for energy efficiency (translation: They're cheaper to use!). By using less energy, it reduces pollution and is better for the environment.

To receive the ENERGY STAR, a product has to exceed the federal government's minimum standards for energy consumption and efficiency standards by considerable amounts.

The average home spends about $1,900 on energy costs every year. Change to appliances that have earned the ENERGY STAR, and you can save $80 a year in energy costs, while saving the environment.

Look for the ENERGY STAR label on:

• Clothes washers, dishwashers, and refrigerators
• Lighting fixtures, torchieres, ceiling fans and bulbs
• TVs, VCRs, and computers
• Room air conditioners
• Dozens of other energy efficient products for your home

When you are purchasing an appliance, it is important to keep in mind there are actually two price tags. The first is the cost of the appliance, the second is the cost to use the appliance (energy and/or water bills). In some cases ENERGY STAR qualified appliances cost more to purchase, but the secondary price tag, is less because these models use less energy. In the long run, ENERGY STAR qualified appliances are a better investment.
