Focus on Energy is offering two options for indoor farms to upgrade their lighting systems.  Review below to identify the best solution for you.

How do I get started?

  1. Contact your Focus on Energy Advisor or find a Trade Ally to identify the best option for your facility.
  2. Obtain pre-approval if participating in Grow Lighting System upgrades.
    • Download the Grow Light System Workbook [XLSM] and work with your Energy Advisor to obtain preapproval.
    • Once your project is preapproved you will receive an Incentive Agreement with your estimated incentive amount.
  3. Complete the installation of your equipment by December 31, 2020.
  4. Upon completion:
    • Fixture upgrade incentive – send the completed Incentive Application [PDF] and invoices to within 60 days of installation and no later than January 31, 2021.
    • Grow Light System incentive - provide your Energy Advisor your signed Project Completion Notice, invoices, and updates to the final design.  Payment will be sent upon final approval.

Non-stacked indoor farm -- An indoor farming facility, such as a warehouse or other building, with only one layer of plants where there is no significant source of light besides electric lighting fixtures. 

Supplemented greenhouse -- Greenhouse using electric lighting to extend the hours of daylight, increase low levels of sunlight on cloudy days or disrupt periods of darkness to alter plant growth.

Participation requirements

Incentives eligible for non-stacked indoor farms and supplemented greenhouses. Vertical farming may qualify for custom incentives. Contact Focus on Energy for additional information. 

  • Customers must receive their electricity from a participating utility.
  • New fixtures must be DLC listed in the Horticultural Lighting Category or meet the following requirements: Photosynthetic Photon Efficacy (PPE) ≥ 2.0 μmol/J.
    • Minimum warranty of five years. 
    • Appropriate horticultural lighting designation by OSHA Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratories or Safety Compliance and Consulting Corporation.
  • Equipment must be purchased and installed between April 24, 2020 and December 31, 2020.
